What Would You Define the Steelers as Right Now?
October 28th, 2009 | by Matt Loede |What do you think of the Steelers seven games into the season? On Tuesday I was listening to NFL Radio (a staple in my mini-van), and on the show was Vikings coach Brad Childress. He was talking about the exciting game Sunday vs the Steelers, when Pat Kirwan, a great NFL mind , said he felt that the Vikings lost to a “great” football team in the Steelers on Sunday.
It got me to thinking.
While the Steelers are for sure a team that is going to be around in January, I wouldn’t define them as a “great” team at the moment. They are a good team, and maybe even a very good team – but great? They did need two defensive TD’s Sunday to get the job done, and while some may say that is luck, at least they were able to do it.
To me, and I am sure to Mike Tomlin, there’s a lot to be done over the bye week. They have to run better, play better on kick coverage (already two TD’s there), and they have to find a way to finish games in the 4th quarter.
Get me a win in Denver on Nov. 8th, and we’ll start talking about the club being a “great” team. For now, they are very good, and the good part about that is they have plenty of time and more than enough talent to change that to great before the start of the postseason.
